Traits of ASD/AS are:
- Excellent rote memory.
- Absorb facts easily, once information has been digested appropriately.
- Poor social understanding.
- Lack of eye contact.
- Routine and rituals of structured situations eg getting up in the morning.
- Difficulty taking direction and coping with negative feedback.
- Is a 'loner' who never quite fits in to society.
- Difficulty establishing relationships with people
- Generally anxious and unable to cope with any form of criticism or imperfection.
- Inability to understand that communication involves listening as well as talking.
- Ability to talk well about a favourite subject, but not understand when the other person is fed up or wants to change subject of matter.
- A very literal understanding of what was said in a conversation. When you tell an Aspie to get lost and go away, they do it! They will find ways of 'getting lost'.
There is no cure or specific treatment for Aspergers Syndrome.
